Featured above is the unusual Japanese wonder shell (Thatcheria mirabilis), also referred to as Miraculous thatcheria. This eye-catching mollusk, considered by many conchologists as the most superbly shaped seashell, grows to lengths of between about 3-5 inches (75 - 125 mm). Dating from the Miocene, it’s found in the warmer waters of the Indian and Pacific Oceans, including Japan.
