Prescribed Fire in Yosemite National Park

This was an amazing moment to witness! One day this past spring I visited Yosemite National Park in California to photograph its natural beauty, but when I arrived, the park was covered in smoke. I considered going back home, however, decided to stay just to see what would happen. That night the smoke cleared for a bit, and it was surreal to see this prescribed fire burning through Yosemite Valley.

The thick smoke didn't seem to discourage climbers, though. If you look carefully, you can see lights from their headlamps as they climb up El Capitan (at far left). Bridalveil Fall is at lower right. Photo taken on May 25, 2021.
