These colorful sundogs greeted me when observing the sky from my home in Cagliari, Italy, on the morning of October 25, 2023. Positioned 22-degrees from the Sun at the same solar altitude, sundogs (also called parhelia) form when sunlight is refracted by plate-shaped ice crystals composing cirrus clouds. Note that the faces of these crystals must be nearly horizontal for the 'dogs' to be observed. Always use caution when looking anywhere near the Sun.
