The solar storm on Friday, May 10, 2024 resulted in a significant display of northern lights that were historic due to the latitudes at which they could be seen. They could even be detected in the Canary Islands, at a latitude of 28 degrees. In fact, it seems they hadn't been observed from these islands since 1770.
From the Astronorte observatory, located in the north of the island of La Palma, this red aurora could be seen with the naked eye (shown here with a 10-second exposure to capture the north circumpolar star trails). For the ones lucky enough to see these exceptional lights, it was and unforgettable night.
