Sunspots and Saharan Dust

Earlier this year, Saharan dust, and heat, made an unwelcome incursion into the northern Mediterranean region. The veil of dust in front of the Sun sufficiently softened its dazzling glare so that sunspots could be detected with the unaided eye. Make sure to always protect your eyes whenever looking toward the Sun. Photo taken near Syracuse, Italy, a little before sunset on May 20, 2024.
